Glee Blu-ray Gets Green Light

The first season of Glee, which next month resumes its HD run on TV3, at last is coming to Blu-ray.

Twentieth Century Fox has announced its US Blu-ray release for September 14, which means it should land here a few weeks later.

Volume one of Glee’s first season, the 13-episode Road to the Sectionals, already is out on DVD but Fox held back on the Blu-ray until all 22 episodes had aired.

TV3 will screen the first of the remaining nine in a later slot, 8.30pm Fridays, from June 4; this Friday it will screen as a curtain-raiser an Oprah Winfrey special about the show.

According to Fox, the four-disc Blu-ray release will be “fully loaded with exclusive bonus materials and extended episodes, a sing-along karaoke, a behind-the-scenes look at The Power of Madonna episode, Glee Makeovers, never-before-seen Sue’s Corners and the dance tutorial, Staying in Step With Glee.”

Unusually, for a TV series, Glee: The Complete First Season will be encoded with DTS HD Master Audio.

Even more unusual is Fox renewing Glee for a third season before even the first-season finale has aired in the US.
