Man of Steel No Match for Iron Man But What About the Masked Man?

Man of Steel topped the NZ box office at the weekend, when it scored the year’s third highest-opening weekend.

It grossed $1.461 million, behind Iron Man 3’s $2.305 million and Fast & Furious 6’s $1.828 million.

Including Wednesday previews, Man of Steel has so far grossed $1.589 million, compared to $910,666 for the previous weekend’s #1 release, World War Z.

The first of these blockbusters scheduled to bow on Blu-ray will be Iron Man 3.

It’s slated for September 24, which will be an unusually long five-month stretch between its theatrical and home video release (and two weeks after it’s available for HD downloading).

The Blu-ray will include a behind-the-scenes peek at Thor: The Dark World (which opens in November), Deconstructing the Scene: Attack on Air Force One, cast and crew interviews, a gag reel, deleted/extended scenes, and an audio commentary with screenwriters Drew Pearce and Shane Black, who also directed.

F&F6 will follow on October 1 but no word yet on Man of Steel or WWZ.

Coinciding with The Lone Ranger’s worldwide theatrical opening on Thursday is the July 17 DVD release of the first two seasons of the Clayton Moore TV series that ran in the 1950s.

Early trade reviews of The Lone Ranger damn it with faint praise: The Hollywood Reporter dubbed it a “Pirates of the Caribbean-styled revisionist adventure with franchise and theme park intentions written all over it” and Variety, “extravagant but exhausting“.

Incidentally, both Lone Ranger star Arnie Hammer and Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill are lined up for Hollywood’s next TV reboot, The Man From UNCLE.
