New to Blu: July 27 – August 2

The Divergent Series: Allegiant is presented on Blu-ray courtesy with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.40:1.

“As with the previous films in this franchise (and according to the IMDb), this third outing was digitally captured with a variety of Arri cameras at resolutions varying from 3.4K to 6.5K, and then finished at a 4K DI.

“Also as with the previous films in the series, this is often an enticingly sharp and nicely defined looking presentation.”

“The picture quality is quite stunning and highly revealing. Most impressive is that it doesn’t look or feel like the result of a digital motion camera.”

“The accompanying Dolby Atmos track offers a surprisingly punchy score up front … Surround distinction and LFE input leave this another technically hard-to-fault offering, and leaves Allegiant sounding far, far better than it arguably has any right to.”

Jane Got a Gun was photographed on film, and the more textured, mildly gritty façade befits the movie’s place and tone. Light grain hovers and engenders an attractive cinematic texturing.”

“With an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 (Widescreen 1080p), the video quality of the Blu-ray disc is top-notch.

“Shot using a Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL2 camera with Panavision B- and G-Series lenses & a Panavision Panaflex Platinum camera with Panavision Primo, B-, G-Series, ATZ, and AWZ2 lenses, the colour and clarity sparkle in this visually well-crafted Western.”

“The DTS HD track satisfies, but the film isn’t quite the action packed ride you might be expecting. Still, vocals are clear and the rears get an appropriate amount of usage.”

Also new are A Bigger Splash (“a sparkling new HD transfer”) CellDragon Blade, Dark Knight Trilogy and season one of Supergirl.
