New to Blu: September 28 – October 4

This week’s only major release, Conjuring 2, “delivers the shocks with a superb, near-reference 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 encode …

“The only drawback holding the presentation from perfection are the few minor instances of light posterisation inherent to the digital photography. But aside from that, the film looks excellent on Blu-ray.”

“With much of this movie taking place indoors and in low light, it’s refreshing to see shadow detail look as good as it does here, there weren’t any noticeable instances of obvious compression artifacts and no problems to note with any crush.”

“As for the Dolby Atmos audio – which downconverted to Dolby TrueHD 7.1 on my system – it offered a fairly typical horror movie soundscape. This meant a lot of creepy atmosphere and occasional ‘jolt moments’.

“Along with good stereo music, the soundfield was able to open things up in a satisfying manner that embellished the story; the mix didn’t dazzle, but it worked fine.”

Attack on Titan Movie Collection turns a 10 hour-plus Magna series into two live-action movies.

“They are loud, colourful and exciting, with detailed sets, spectacular set piece action sequences, monstrous Titans and copious sprays of blood. If you just go with the action and don’t think about why it is happening you can have a lot of fun.

“The video is good, the audio loud and aggressive. Extras are limited but we get what is available in other English friendly regions.”

Also new are Sailor Moon Crystal Set 1 Limited Edition, Sailor Moon Crystal Set 1 (eps 1-14), Only Yesterday and WWE: The Attitude Era Volume 3 – Unreleased.
