LAST chance to win Cars 2 on Blu-ray

Entries close 5pm on Wednesday for the draw to win Cars 2 on Blu-ray. Screenscribe.tv has four copies to give away, thanks to Walt Disney Studios Entertainment. As co-director John Lasseter says in his cheerfully exhaustive commentary, Cars 2 isn’t just a “retread”. It relocates racing car Lightning McQueen and his tow-truck mate Mater to Europe for a World Grand Prix, where they become embroiled in a plot to sabotage alternative fuel’s prospects. The folksy, small-town charm of the original takes a back seat but the spy spoofing is spot-on, particularly the vintage 007 send-up that opens Cars 2, and the animation is polished to perfection. However, some US critics thought Cars 2 seriously dented Pixar’s reputation for quality. The New York Times wondered if “the vitriol [was] less about the fast-paced film and more about resentment that Pixar has broadened its focus to sequels”. But when it quizzed Lasseter about the dog-and-lemon complaints, he merely claimed he didn’t read the reviews. “I make movies for that little boy who loves the characters so much that he wants to pack his clothes in a Lightning McQueen suitcase.” To enter the draw for Cars 2 on Blu-ray (which includes a copy of the movie on DVD), email competition@screenscribe.net with the movie’s title in the subject line, and your name and address in the message field (Cars 2 is rated PG, contains violence). Entry is open to NZ residents only. Meanwhile, the winners of the Bad Teacher competition have been notified by email. They are: A Butler, M Wismann, M Webster and J Anderson. Thanks to everyone who entered and better luck with Cars 2.
