Avatar Heads HD Avalanche

The network premiere of Avatar will see TV2 and TV3 go head-to-head with HD gusto in the first full week of February.

Both channels will launch many of their new-season series from February 4-10.

TV3 will be banking on a bumper audience for its 7.30pm Waitangi Day premiere of Avatar to promote new HD episodes of old favourites starting later in the week.

These include the return of The Secret Lives of Dancers, NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles on Tuesday, and Bones on Thursday.

It also will air another big-gun HD movie that week, Die Hard 4.0, on Wednesday.

TV2 also will use an HD blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, to kick off its week of HD heavyweights from 7pm on Sunday.

On Tuesday it will present a two-and-a-half-hour Two and a Half Men marathon, Au Revoir Charlie.

This back-to-back re-run of last season’s final five episodes featuring Charlie Sheen will precede the show’s ninth-season premiere on Wednesday.

It again will anchor a comedy block that includes the return of The Big Bang Theory and the HD debut of Two Broke Girls, followed by season two of The Walking Dead in a movie-length premiere.

The next night, TV2 will launch the alternate fairy tale world fantasy, Once Upon a Time.

The network’s other HD highlights that week include the Saturday movie, The Accidental Husband, the return of Nikita (10.30pm Wednesday) and a new season of Crash Course (11.30pm Thursday).
