Fresh Off the Boat to Resurface on 3

MediaWorks has confirmed most of the comedies airing on Four will continue their runs on TV3 following the channel’s Bravo makeover in July.

The surprising exception is South Park, which looks as though it will be a Comedy Central exclusive unless TVNZ picks it up for Duke.

Otherwise, expect to see Fresh Off the Boat, New Girl, Bob’s Burgers, American Dad and The Goldbergs (which already has made the transition) resurface for the first time in HD.

It’s doubtful they will air in primetime, given TV3’s comedy focus is on stand-up and panel shows and its peak-hour schedule is dominated by reality, drama and movies.

Some would suit 10pm Fridays, after 7 Days, but they’re more likely to be stripped summer fodder when Story is off-air or screen in weekend daytime slots (as TV2 does with shows that tank in primetime).

  1. I hope New Girl gets a decent time as it’s excellent 🙂

  2. I know it’s a long shot but they might want to have a Wednesday/Thursday comedy block like TV2 to counter programme against it. Seems a waste to have these shows in off-peak slots.

  3. Could put some of these in for as double headers when Jono and Ben takes a hiatus perhaps. But most likely, as the article says, stripped at 5pm (content rating withstanding) or weekend afternoons.

  4. Phew, I’m glad they’ve kept them … hopefully they’ll screen them instead of road cops, border cops, beach cops, cop cops, etc!

  5. Yes, they would add much needed variety but I’m not sure if any have the heft to command primetime slots. Perhaps New Girl but the rest are marginal at best. I was always surprised MediaWorks gave up Modern Family as part of its Fox rationalisation but kept the inferior Wonder Years wannabe The Goldbergs — I always felt they had a great opportunity to build an early evening comedy block with The Simpsons and Modern Family on a double-bill.

  6. Any company that loses The Simpsons has idiots running it.
