The next series of Mitre 10 Dream Home, the first in four years, will be shot in HD – and, in another first, will offer viewers the chance to vote for their favourite six couples. It’s part of a format remodel that will see TVNZ try to go one better than TV3’s top-rating The Block NZ by basing this revival in the country’s Reconstruction Capital of Christchurch. It also will have an eco-friendly emphasis on how to build smarter and will air next year. For your chance to be one of the Mitre 10 Dream Home couples, register online by October 7.

Homeland star Mandy Patinkin has told New York magazine that signing on to Criminal Minds was “the biggest public mistake I ever made … I thought it was something very different. I never thought they were going to kill and rape all these women every night, every day, week after week, year after year. It was very destructive to my soul and my personality. After that, I didn’t think I would get to work in television again.” Patinkin quit Criminal Minds after the second season; TV One will repeat season five from September 26 and TV3 is soon to premiere season two of Homeland.

Watch for Episodes’ return to TV One. The network hasn’t announced it yet but with the DVD of season two due on October 3, expect the show’s HD run to resume the next day in place of Auckland Daze (for which TV One dumped Episodes to try to maximise a local show’s viewership off the back of top-rating Mrs Brown’s Boys). While the BBC, which co-produces Episodes with Showtime, didn’t release season two on Blu-ray, it’s possible Showtime will in the US. Last week Showtime renewed the showbiz comedy for nine more episodes.

NZ’s Got Talent’s still got it, with the ratings for Sunday’s second episode averaging 15.0% – 22.0% of the major demographics, scoring especially well with household shoppers and TV One’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds. It also helped to lift HD lead-out Nothing Trivial’s ratings, which averaged 7.9% – 12.9%, the highest yet for this season. The knock-on effect continued through to Offspring’s 4.2% – 7.1% average. TV3’s HD re-run of The Invention of Lying averaged 7.2% – 8.5% to largely outrate TV2’s Man of the House.
