HD Heads-Up: April 20-26

TV3 will use the first NZ version of The X Factor to give Sunday nights a tune-up.

The 90-minute premiere will screen, as ScreenScribe.tv contributor Leo Styles predicted, on April 21, from 7.00-8.30, ahead of the network HD premiere of Sione’s 2: Unfinished Business.

X Factor will screen twice weekly, with the second episode airing 7.30 Monday.

The competition on both nights will be fierce, with TV One’s MasterChef NZ counting down towards the final on Sunday and the popularity of TV2’s My Kitchen Rules boiling over on Monday.

TV3 predicts the Sunday premiere episode will polarise audiences as siblings from Gore are pitted against each other amid the judges being “blown away” by the special talents of a Kerikeri supermarket worker.

It also reveals there will be a “surprise visit” from Australian judge Ronan Keating.

As a result of The X Factor’s launch, re-runs of The Simpsons’  23rd season will screen in a one-hour block ahead of 3 News.

The first episode will guest star Mythbuster Adam Savage and the second will mark the ‘toon’s 500th show.

Also of note in HD for the week starting April 20:

❑ The return of The Bionic Vet in a new Sunday afternoon slot (TV One, 4.30)

❑ The series finale of 666 Park Avenue on Sunday (TV2, 10.40)

❑ Another edition of 3rd Degree Presents The Vote on Wednesday (TV3, 8.30)

❑ Double-episodes of Bones from Thursday on TV3: season eight at 8.30, and re-runs of season six at 9.30

❑ Amanda Holden, Jack Dee and Michael Buble guest on Friday’s Graham Norton Show (TV3, 8.30).

  1. YAY … great to see X Factor NZ nearly here, be interesting to see new kiwi talent 🙂

  2. What about new episodes of The Simpsons and Family Guy?

  3. Am waiting to hear back from TV3. There are only two eps left in the latest season of The Simpsons, so hopefully they’ll screen at 7pm from April 27 and after that TV3 will continue its season 23 re-runs in the slot. I imagine Family Guy won’t return until after X Factor completes its four-month run.

  4. Turns out TV3 will air X Factor 7pm every Sunday, and not just for the premiere — which will give it a head-start on MasterChef NZ. From April 27, re-runs of The Simpsons will screen 5.30pm Sundays. Don’t be surprised if TV3 uses the popularity of X Factor to launch a new series after it. New Simpsons and Family Guy eps won’t screen again until X Factor ends its run. Both Simpsons and Family Guy are being taken off air a couple of eps shy of their season finales.

  5. “New Simpsons and Family Guy eps won’t screen again until X Factor ends its run. Both Simpsons and Family Guy are being taken off air a couple of eps shy of their season finales.” Now isn’t that rather typical of NZ TV? Kill off programmes before they finish. I’m not the slightest bit interested in NZ X Factor as it will be a regurgitation of NZ Doesn’t Have Talent.

  6. Paul: you should give X Factor NZ a chance, as you may be in for a surprise 🙂

  7. Gakkk I’m with Paul! The talentless shows should be given their own channel.

  8. Thanks for the mention, Philip. I am actually looking forward to X Factor NZ. The competition on both channels is heating up. I find it interesting that Monday’s X Factor episode will be the same length as MKR and conclude at 8.45pm obviously because of MKR’s popularity.
