HD Heads-Up: August 10

TVNZ 1 is giving its schedule an early spring clean with a new weekend and week-night line-up from August 19. Taking over the 7.00 variety slot, presumably until The X Factor UK’s premiere, is Wild Alaska – Earth’s Frozen Kingdom while being double-billed on Sunday nights are The Replacement (above) and Prime Suspect: Tennison …

Said The i of the three-part The Replacement: “This new Glasgow-set drama from BBC1 takes the often difficult subject of balancing a hard fought career with having children, and spins it into a tense and highly watchable portrait of paranoia” …

ITV commissioned Tennison to mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary. It stars Stefane Martini as a 22-year-old Jane Tennison investigating her first murder case. The New York Times thought it a “solid, reasonably complex” yarn but lamented the lack of “a distinctive spirit and personality” …

TVNZ 1 will roll out a new slate of lifestyle shows to replace MasterChef Australia in the week starting August 19 while TVNZ will clear 7.30 weeknights presumably for the return of My Kitchen Rules NZ, with finals of The Mick, The Middle, American Housewife and Kevin Can Wait

Also ending their runs that week are Planet Earth IITop Gear, Deadliest Lovers and Code:1 

TVNZ 1’s new line-up includes: Unreal Estate (7.30 Tuesday), an Australian series about extraordinary homes and their larger-than-life owners; HOMEmade (7.30 Wednesday), a local home improvement half-hour; and the return of Rachel Hunter’s Tour of Beauty in a new slot (8.00 Wednesdays). It will also premiere another Mrs Brown’s Boys special that week, Chez Mammy (830 Thursday) 

Prime isn’t commenting on whether Wednesday night drama Chicago Justice is being dumped from primetime. On August 23 it’s being replaced by the first of the network’s commemorative Diana documentaries, Diana: Her Story. Also scheduled for this month and next are the two-part The Story Of DianaDiana – Seven Days that Shook the WorldDiana: The Day the World Cried and Diana and the Paparazzi. “Screening details for Chicago Justice will be released in due course,” a spokeswoman says …

Pre-emptions of note: Prime is pre-empting tonight’s The Halcyon and Conviction to re-run the powerful documentary, Glen Campbell — I’ll Be Me and on August 21, Three will pre-empt Blue Bloods for the Fairfax documentary, The Valley, which purports to tell “the untold stories of our soldiers” …

The only HD network movie premiere in the week starting August 19 is Force of Destiny (TVNZ 1, 10.45 Saturday). Other HD coming attractions include:
