HD Heads-Up: December 8

BBC Big Bird’s back … Miranda changes channels … New Godzilla rises …

TVNZ 1’s Attenborough’s Big Birds (December 18, 7.00) is “an interesting film” about flightless birds, The Telegraph reports, “but plainly not one of the BBC’s blue-chip productions, which these days offer Hollywood-level cinematography alongside new zoological insights.” The review also wondered if Attenborough was risking overexposure by phoning in one-offs like Birds: “Attenborough did appear, but not in the field, instead sitting sagelike in a library doing that tilted head and trademark delivery. My suggestion is that whatever Attenborough gives to lesser series such as Big Birds and Mountain Lions, he takes away from the landmark series to come by devaluing his own aura.” …

TVNZ 1 is adding a new HD nature franchise to its schedule, Disneynature, which will air off-peak, starting with African Cats on Christmas Day at 11am. 1. Why did Big Bang Theory Ep 10×10 say last nite that it was the mid-season final where the US mid-season final is Ep 10×11 screening on December 15th?

  2. Alas, because it suits TVNZ programming strategy to cut it short at ep10. The earliest TVNZ 2 would be able to screen ep11 here would be December 21, and traditionally sitcom and drama slots are usurped for movies and specials in the run-up to Christmas. The same thing happened last year. The good news is TVNZ 2 plans to resume S10 early in the new year, which will be sooner than it resumed s9.
