➢ Let the games begin. In the wake of the Winter Olympics, TVNZ 2 will anchor Sunday nights with Australian Spartan. The family series, in which Kiwis take on Aussies “in the most diabolical test of team-work ever devised”, will screen 7.00 Sundays from March 5. “Spartan will be next level,” predicts co-host Edwina Bartholomew. “The location is incredible; the competitors are world class and the show will be something to behold. Expect to see everyone from Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes, CrossFit champions, marathon runners to workmates and mothers’ groups.” Australian Spartan premieres on the Seven Network on Sunday …

➢ TVNZ 1 will premiere a high-rating investigative series about Australian crimes called Murder Uncovered (8.45 Tuesdays from March 6). Despite its popularity, the show became a casualty of Seven’s cutbacks. Seven’s director of news and public affairs, Craig McPherson, said it was a “tough call” to make in “tough times” because Murder Uncovered “set the benchmark in the true crime genre thanks to an extraordinarily talented team” …

➢ TVNZ 2 will burn off the final season of Scandal overnight from March 8, when double-episodes will screen from around 2.50am  …

➢ TVNZ 1’s 20/20 returns tonight at 9.35 with a report on the gymnastics sexual abuse scandal that saw an astounding 156 women testify against ex-USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar …

➢  Good news for current affairs junkies: Three’s The Nation returns 9.30am Saturday as Newshub Nation and TVNZ 1’s Q+A will resume 9am Sundays from March 4 …

➢ Duke’s Running Wild with Bear Grylls premiere has been delayed indefinitely; American Pickers will continue in the 7.30 Wednesday slot from tomorrow …

➢ Prime will resume Elementary in a new slot: 8.30 Saturdays from this weekend. Season five of the Sherlock Holmes update will continue from episode 15 …

➢ TVNZ 2’s mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead on Monday will run for 15 minutes longer than anticipated. It will now screen from 9.45-11.00, pre-empting Two-and-a-Half Men and bringing forward Mom and Empire by 15 minutes …

➢ Appearing this week’s on Prime’s daytime-only broadcasts of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert: Tom Hanks and Katy Tur (1.35 Wednesday); Justin Theroux, US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and a musical performance by Portugal.   1. Australian Spartan needs supporting new season shows to promote the new game shows leading into our 8.30 blockbuster movies.

  2. TVNZ 2 should update their Sunday evening line- up with a very strong line-up of shows, say Kevin (Probably) Saves the World , The Crossing … and they will lead into our blockbuster real big movies or something like that.

  3. Hi Phil. You snuck in the return on Scandal there and I nearly missed it … on an HD Head-up for the 20th Feb with a sentence half way down the article, actually describing a transmission date of the 8th March … sneaky!! hahaha! 🙂
