HD Heads-Up: June 29-July 5

Ahead of TV3 resuming The Block comes the first series of Mitre 10 Dream Home in nine years — and the first in HD.

It will air 7.30 Tuesdays on TV2 from July 2 — the same week The Almighty Johnsons returns for its third season and Rescue 1 spin-off Code: 1 launches.

Aptly enough, Dream Home is set in Canterbury, where six DIY  families compete to win the home of their dreams.

It’s fronted by Cantabrian Simon Barnett, who also will host an eight-week spin-off, Off Cuts, with extra footage and DIY tips.

Code:1, meanwhile, sounds like a revamped Rescue 1 — in other words, another star vehicle for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service.

According to the publicity, “Code:1 captures all the confronting emergencies, heroic rescues and inspirational recoveries that took place over the busy 2012/2013 summer season with unprecedented access.”

Code:1 will screen 8pm Thursday on TV2, ahead of The Almighty Johnsons’ new 8.30 Thursday slot on TV3.

Says star Emmett Skilton: “This season it feels like the training wheels have been taken off.

“Season three is punchy and hilarious but heartbreaking at the same time, a balance of reality and fantasy that never takes itself too seriously.”

Also new of note in HD for the week starting June 29:
