HD Heads-Up: KA-POW!

This month TV2 and TV3 will screen the network HD movie premieres of two superhero franchises but inexplicably a third big-gun blockbuster will be in SD.

TV2 will screen the latest Superman reboot, Man of Steel, as its Sunday Premiere Movie on July 12 while TV3 will recruit the X-Men spin-off, The Wolverine, on July 16.

The same week TV2 will premiere Django Unchained as its 9.05 Saturday Blockbuster but it won’t screen in HD.

This is astonishing when 99% of network movie premieres are in HD and when it can be streamed in HD on services like Netflix.

Among the other coming attractions TV2 does have in HD for the week starting July 11 are Bad Lieutenant (12.25am Sunday), Machine Gun Preacher (2.40am Sunday), The Fourth Kind (11.25 Sunday) and the school holiday matinees Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes Back (Monday), Super Buddies (Tuesday), Short (Wednesday), Beastly (Thursday) and Frenemies (Friday).

TV3’s other only HD movie that week is a repeat of The Rum Diary (10.25 Sunday).

In other HD news for the week starting July 11, TV1 will premiere Dolphin: Spy in the Pod (7.30 Saturday) and the latest seasons of Castle (9.30 Monday) and Hotel of Mum and Dad (11.00 Thursday).

Exiting the schedule are Britain’s Got Talent, with a two-and-a-half-hour swan song, and Major Crimes.
