HD Heads-Up: March 17 UPDATED

KA-POW! The latest superhero series to go belly-up on TV2 is Arrow. Supergirl and The Flash were consigned to Saturday afternoons last month, Gotham (which has just been renewed for a third season) resurfaces next week in SD on Duke, don’t expect to see Agents of SHIELD in primetime again, and as of March 31, Arrow will screen 11.35 Thursdays. It turns out Arrow aired 9.30 Thursday for the last time on March 10, before being pre-empted tonight because of its US scheduling and next week by the Easter movie, The Karate Kid. Meanwhile, the pending Flash and Supergirl crossover will mark the first time two superheroes from rival networks have teamed up …

TV3 will screen an Ice Age TV special within a week of its US broadcast. Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade (5.30 Easter Saturday) reveals the origins of the world's first Easter egg hunt and essentially is an extended promo for the release of the next Ice Age movie, Collision Course, in July. Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, and Denis Leary reprise their roles from the movies for the half-hour spin-off, which will also star Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Seth Green (Family Guy) and Josh Peck (Grandfathered).

Speaking of super line-ups: The Graham Norton Show on April 1 (TV3, 9.30) will guest star Batman v Superman’s Henry Carvill, Ben Affleck and Amy Adams. Also new that’s of note in HD for the week starting March 26 are the return of a new-look Kiwi Living (TV One, 7.30 Friday) and the documentaries Little Criminals (Prime, 8.30 Monday),  which originally aired in SD, Mega-Yachts (TV3, 9,.30 Monday) and Inside the Ku Klux Klan (TV One, 9.30 Tuesday) …

TV One’s network movie premiere of Mr Banks on Easter Sunday will pre-empt Blindspot and push the final of Black Work back to 10pm. Similarly, Prime will pre-empt Father Brown and Partners in Crime on March 26 for an HD re-run of the movie, Cheerful Weather for the Wedding, while TV2 will ditch The Simpsons for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Meanwhile, TV3 will replace The Blacklist and Chicago PD with a re-run of The Bourne Ultimatum on March 30 because Blacklist is off-air in the US until next month …

Other coming attractions in HD over Easter Weekend include Pearl Harbor (TV2, 7.00 Saturday), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (TV3, 7.00 Saturday), Mission: Impossible III (TV3, 9.20 Saturday), The Sixth Sense (TV2, 10.15 Saturday), Hope Springs (TV One, 10.35 Saturday), Sleepless in Seattle (TV2, 12.20am Sunday), Secretariat (TV One, 3.40am Sunday), Sleeping Beauty (TV2, 5.40 Sunday) and Muriel’s Wedding (TV2, 12.25am Monday) …

TV One has pulled the network movie premiere of White Lies from Saturday’s schedule. It’s replacing the NZ movie with the HD premiere of the Diane Keaton-Kevin Kline drama, Darling Companion. “It’s been postponed to a later date as we’ve identified another slot for it,” a TVNZ spokesman says. It was surprising to see a 10.35 Saturday berth for the premiere of a prestigious NZ drama with Film Commission and NZ On Air funding. Chances are White Lies will resurface in a Sunday Theatre slot, along with another NZ movie that TV One will broadcast, The Dark Horse

And TV3 is dropping the March 28 premiere of The Blocktagon for new episodes of American Ninja Warrior. The latter will air 4.25 weekdays, resuming from episode five of season seven. “The Blocktagon will now premiere at a later, yet to be announced date,” the network said …

  1. SO glad they don’t have Daredevil on TVNZ, hate to think how badly they would treat it 🙂

  2. Will the new Duke channel appear on Sky also?

  3. I assume that Arrow will resurface in primetime on Duke along with The Flash and Agents but that could be too optimistic.

  4. AAAARRRGGGGG!!!!!!! It’s so frustrating when they do this. Then it’s a real kick in the balls when they replace it with some reality crud. At least the new season of Daredevil is released on Netflix tonight @ 10pm.

  5. Hi Mark. Sky will screen Duke on Channel 023.

  6. @ Leo. That is what I’m hoping will happen as well. It makes sense for them to do this.

  7. Thanks, Philip, that is good news. Current season of Arrow is staying on TV2 but will be on late on Friday nights

  8. The post-midnight Friday Arrows are re-runs; season four continues on Thursdays, but at 11.35.

  9. Oops, I got the wrong day. Thanks, Philip.

  10. The short Ice Age movie was very good. Looking forward to watching the new Ice Age movie that is coming out this year.

  11. The Blacklist on TV3 has now caught up with the US.The next episode in the US will screen on April the 7th. Hopefully this episode will screen on TV3 shortly afterwards.

  12. I see that TVNZ 2 will be renewing its Tuesday nights with the launch of MKR but with what else on that same night?

  13. TVNZ 2’s promoting 24: Legacy as premiering on February 14. Chances are that will be with a two-hour episode, to catch up with same-week-as-the-US screenings by February 21. It’s also likely the series will air weekly 9.30 Wednesdays so This Is Us and Grey’s Anatomy can be double-billed Tuesdays. TVNZ 2 had originally pencilled in 8.30 Mondays for 24, which would have been the perfect lead-in to The Walking Dead when it returns in a couple of weeks.
