HD Heads-Up: March 22

➢ Movies will dominate Easter schedules, with the highlight being TVNZ 2’s free-to-air premiere of Zootopia (7.00 Sunday). TVNZ 1 will have two network premieres — In the Heart of the Sea (8.40 Sunday) and Burnt (8.30 Monday) — while Maori TV has 45 Years (8.30 Sunday). Three settles for another re-run of ET (7.00 Saturday) and the vaguely Easter-related Noah (8.35 Sunday) …

➢ Other HD movies lined up for the week include Jack the Giant Slayer (TVNZ 2, 7.00 Saturday), Bruce Almighty (TVNZ 2, 9.15 Saturday), The Water Diviner (Three, 10.15 Saturday), Scary Movie (TVNZ 2, 11.10 Saturday), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Three, 7.00 Sunday), Everly (TVNZ 2, 11.10 Sunday), The Lookout (Prime. 8.30 Monday), Air Force One (Duke, 9.00 Monday), Iron Man (TVNZ 2, 8.50 Tuesday), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (TVNZ 2, 8.30 Thursday), Fast and Furious (Three, 8.30 Thursday), Crocodile Dundee (TVNZ 2, 7.30 Friday) and Jaws (Maori TV, 8.30 Friday) …

➢ TVNZ 1 +1 will be replaced by a Games Extra channel as part of TVNZ’s marathon Commonwealth Games coverage from April 4-15. TVNZ 1 and Duke will air the games in HD, with the latter offering strikingly different coverage of the opening ceremony at 9.30 courtesy of the Alternative Commentary Collective of Jeremy Wells, Matt Heath and Mike Lane. Heath and Lane will also front a nightly 8.30 highlights package on Duke …

➢  Premiering the week starting March 31 are Storage Wars New York (Prime, 7.00 Sunday), All Star Family Feud: League vs. Netball (Three, 7.30 Monday), season nine of NCIS: Los Angeles (Three, 9.30 Wednesday) and Graham Norton’s Good Guest Guide (Three, 9.00 Friday), a recycling of clips from previous seasons with fresh material from Ricky Gervais, Miriam Margolyes and Dame Julie Walters …

➢ Also new will be Elton John: The Nation’s Favourite Song, which TVNZ 1 will air 7.25 on Easter Monday. The Telegraph dubbed it “an unimaginative, by-the-numbers countdown of the British public’s 20 favourite Elton tracks, accompanied by clips and adoring celebrity chums mouthing all the standard showbiz compliments” — although it does reveal he never thought Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me would be a hit …

➢ Ending their runs that week are Flog It!, The Wall, Murder Uncovered, and The Week the Landlords Moved In …

  1. Hi Phi. Has there been a shift in the transmission date for the last series of Scandal on TV2? IIRC you mentioned these would be shown on the 29th as double eps, but my TV guide shows a replay and the Freeview guide online doesnt indicate a new series is starting … do you have any updates you could share?

  2. Apologies, Rosco, they will be repeats. I thought TVNZ 2 hadn’t screened S6 but it went to air in November. Hopefully the S6 double-ep re-runs will continue into S7 originals. Will see if TVNZ 2 can confirm on Monday.
