HD Heads-Up: March 7-13

TV1 will lighten Sunday nights with its Broadchurch replacement: In the Club.

This BBC newcomer is another chums drama from Kay Mellor (Fat Friends, The Syndicate).

The Independent dubbed it an “enjoyably melodramatic series about the never-ending crises of six new mums in the same prenatal class”.

And although The Guardian felt it “deftly plotted but light on humour” and The Telegraph thought it “may need time to gestate“, the premiere “topped the ratings outside soaps”.

The series was based in part on Mellor’s own experience of teenage motherhood and its popularity quickly spawned a renewal from the BBC

Hermione Norris (The Crimson Field), Jill Halfpenny (Babylon), Katherine Parkinson (The Honourable Woman), Christine Bottomley (Land Girls), Tara Fitzgerald (Waking the Dead) and Will Mellor (Broadchurch) star.

Ending their HD runs on TV1 that week are The Great Bear Stakeout, Fat Tony & Co and Shed of the Year.

Meanwhile, 2013 Oscar-winner Argo is having its free-to-air HD premiere late-night — it will air 10.30 Saturday on TV1 — while TV3 will premiere Identity Thief 8.35 on Sunday.

Other coming attractions in HD include The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (TV2, 6.40 Saturday),  The Pursuit Of Happyness (TV2, 8.30 Saturday), Next Three Days (TV2, 10.55 Saturday), Gentlemen Broncos (TV3, midnight Sunday) and Sex and the City 2 (TV2, 8.40 Friday).
