The masterminds of programming at TV One have scheduled Spellbound for 7.30 Sundays from October 9. Host Toni Street’s disappearance from Seven Sharp to record the show generated headlines but closer to home readers might like to know one of the reasons why our esteemed but perilously erstwhile critic Doug Coutts has been absent of late is he’s been too busy with a paying gig, trying to come up with enough linguistic curlers to stump the show’s Year 9 and 10 students …

The season premiere of Spellbound will lead into that weekend’s Sunday Theatre premiere, Bombshell. It uses archived footage to help dramatise the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in 1985. Mark Mitchinson (Filthy Rich) and Nathalie Boltt (Step-Dave) star; Riccardo Pellizzeri (The Monster of Mangatiti) directs the John  (How to Murder Your Wife) Banas screenplay …

First Dates NZ will screen 8.30 Mondays of TV2 from October 10 ahead of Heroes and Villains: Caught on Camera, which will fill in until The Walking Dead resumes on October 24 …

From October 11, TV One will replace The Hard Stuff With Nigel Latta with something much sweeter: Sugar Free Farm, in which six British celebrities go bush and give up sugar for two weeks. The Independent thought it “mostly silly fare, but effective in driving home the message for those who grew up thinking fat, not sugar, is the big dietary evil” …

Starting new runs in the week starting October 8 are Lewis (Prime, 8.35 Sunday), Lucifer (TV One, 9.30 Monday) and Cold Feet (TV One, 8.30 Thursday) while TV One’s MasterChef Australia will launch a Nigella Week on October 14 …
