HD Highlight: Ray Donovan (Season Two Premiere)

Ray Donovan starts its second season tonight (SoHo, 8.30) as an Emmy contender for best supporting actor in a drama series (Jon Voight). Its Sunday premiere in the US was down on the first season’s but didn’t have the benefit of being launched on the back of a top-rating attraction like the series finale of Dexter. Reviews largely held up, with Variety praising the “enlivening” addition of several new cast members. “The closing events of the first season – involving the death of a mobster Ray enlisted to whack his dad, Mickey – have also put Ray squarely in the crosshairs of an ambitious new FBI LA Bureau Chief (Hank Azaria), who labels him a ‘bagman for movie stars,’ forcing the fixer to schlep to Mexico, trying to bring his dad back to clear up the mess.” But his problems don’t end there. As TV Guide observes, “There are Hollywood crises for Ray to fix — one amusingly involving an American Idol-style reality-TV contestant on the day of her live performance — amid distracting domestic traumas, including the anger issues of Ray’s spoiled son Conor, who idolises his disreputable grandpa.”

  1. This is an awesome show. 1st episode of the 2nd season was great. Following the final episode of Revolution on TV2 this week, all of the series (6 at the moment) that we record each week are on SoHo. The only exception to this is Hawaii Five-O.
