HD Ratings: Anatomy of a Hit Schedule

Launching the latest series of My Kitchen Rules (above) between an hour-long Shortland Street and the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy helped TV2 to stitch up the night on Monday.

MKR averaged 11.4% – 16.2% of the key demographics on the back of super-sized Shortland Street’s 14.7% – 23.7% and ahead of Grey’s Anatomy’s 5.5% – 9.8%.

The hospital soap’s ratings were exceptional for post-9.30 but the long-running drama was vulnerable to TV3’s Transporter 2 (6.0% – 6.8%) in the 18-39 and 18-49 demos.

TV2’s programming crushed TV3’s earlier in the night, when Road Cops averaged only 3.6% – 5.1% and Kings Cross ER, 3.7% – 6.5%.

These shows also struggled against TV One newcomers Border Security (5.0% – 7.2%) and The Force (2.6% – 6.5%).

But TV One took a back seat at 8.30 with Person of Interest (1.8% – 6.3%) and The Following (0.6% – 2.5%).

Week on week, TV One and TV3 largely were down in the key demos while TV2 was up across the board, with spectacular channel shares of 33.6% – 39.3%.
