HD Ratings: Axed Drama Rebounds

Within 24 hours of TVNZ confirming its cancellation, low-rating Kiwi drama Nothing Trivial sharply improved on Wednesday.

The TV One series posted its highest ratings in weeks, averaging 5.1% – 7.0% of adults 18-49, 25-54 and household shoppers with kids.

It out-rated TV3’s 3rd Degree in the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics and delivered a big enough lead-in for Scandal to bounce back from the bottom with a 3.4% – 4.2% average.

Even among adults 18-39, both dramas made gains: Nothing Trivial posted 2.3% of this demo and Scandal, 1.9%.

Nothing Trivial’s series finale airs next week and Scandal’s “mid-season finale” screens on December 11, although that is merely TVNZ’s description for pulling the series 12 episodes into its 22-week season.

TV3’s rival HD drama, Underbelly: Squizzy, averaged 3.1% – 4.5% on the back of 3rd Degree’s 4.9% – 9.0%.

At 7.30, TV3’s Family Secret was steady, with 4.3% – 8.5%, while stablemate Prison Families got a big bump over the previous week, with 5.8% – 10.6%

While TV2’s HD comedies continued to dominate, TV One’s and TV3’s gains meant they didn’t make a clean sweep of all the demos.

At 9.30, Tabatha Takes Over took control of the hour, with 5.2% – 7.7%.

Meanwhile, Big Brother Australia is faring poorly as the lead-in to 3 News, with Wednesday’s episode averaging only 0.8% – 1.8% compared to 2.6% – 5.0% for TV One’s Millionaire Hot Seat and 7.2% – 10.0% for TV2’s Home & Away.

  1. Whoever decided to put Big Brother Australia on at 4.30 made a bad mistake … it’s the wrong time 🙂

  2. Yep. It should have been on at 2.00am..

  3. Hell, it should be put on-demand only.
