HD Ratings: Big Bang Back With a Bang

The latest bombshell on The Big Bang Theory won’t screen here for another month but the previous shocker, in which Sheldon and Amy consummated their relationship, largely won its time slot on Wednesday.

It averaged 7.3% – 10.8% of the core commercial demographics, and scored channel shares of 26.9 – 33.5.

Only among 25-54 year-olds did it seesaw with the tail end of TV One’s MasterChef Australia (3.7% – 8.1%).

The mid-season return of TBBT helped the resumption of Mom to win its slot with rating averages of 7.1% – 10.8%, ahead of the SD premiere of SAS Who Dares Wins averaging 3.7% – 6.6% to conquer the 9.30 hour.

TV2 started the night strongly with Shortland Street averaging 11.1% – 15.6%, which the premiere of Dr Ken capitalised on to deliver 5.9% – 9.6%.

But the latter was least popular with TV2’s 18-39 audience and viewers generally switched off midway to catch up with MasterChef or House Rules on TV3 (4.8% – 8.2%).

TV One’s Code Black averaged 1.9% – 4.5% against The Blacklist’s 2.1% -5.4% on TV3, with the crime drama out-rating the medical drama in all the key demos except 25-54.

But Blacklist stablemate Chicago PD seems destined for a late-night beat, with this week’s ep averaging only 0.4% – 1.4% opposite Unforgettable’s 1.0% – 2.7%.

Viewers were more evenly spread on Thursday. While 18-39s were glued to TV2 all night, other demos drifted off after the premiere of Surveillance Oz Dashcam, which averaged 6.1% – 7.9% off the back of the return of Police Ten 7 (6.6% – 10.5%).

The X-Files averaged 5.2% – 6.9% ahead of Arrow’s 3.3% – 4.1% but yo-yoed with MasterChef (3.6% – 7.8%).

TV3’s double-ep of House Rules averaged 4.1% – 6.3% and TV One’s Kirstie and Phil’s Love It Or List It 1.7% – 5.7%.

TV One’s Secret Life of Babies unexpectedly bombed on Tuesday, averaging only 3.0% – 3.5% against TV2’s SD relic of a re-run, Sensing Murder (7.1% – 10.3%).

TV3’s 8.30 option, NCIS, averaged 1.9% – 5.0%. and was more popular with 25-54s than Secret Life, while lead-out SVU averaged a competitive 1.6% – 3.1% against TV One’s Britain’s Spending Secrets (2.0% – 2.9%) and TV2’s Hoarding Buried Alive (2.1% – 3.5%).

On Monday, TV One sewed up the 25-54 demo with Criminal Minds and Castle but TV2 dominated in the other demos with Shortland Street, The Middle, Grandfathered and the movie, Just Go With It.
