HD Ratings: Blacklist Makes Red-Hot Return

The Blacklist was at the top of most people’s must-see list on Tuesday, when the season two premiere blacked out the competition.

It averaged 5.3% – 8.5% of the major demographics to beat The Mentalist (4.3% – 6.7%) and The Amazing Race: Australia v NZ (4.9% – 8.1%) on one of the week’s most competitive nights.

It won each of the four key demos except household shoppers with kids whereas its lead-out and lead-in swept all four.

Sons of Anarchy was in top gear (4.3% – 6.3%) against Unforgettable (1.8% – 3.3%) and Embarrassing Bodies Down Under (3.1% – 4.9%) while The Block NZ averaged 9.7% – 14.9% of the key demos compared to rival My Kitchen Rules NZ’s 4.8% – 5.8%.

MKRNZ continues to beat Block in the 5+ demo — in other words, all viewers — but not the age and HHS demos that matter more to the networks (hence ScreenScribe.tv’s emphasis on this data).

TV2’s Block competition averaged 8.7% – 11.7% (Don’t Trust Andrew Mayne) and 7.0% – 7.6% (Motorway Patrol) off the back of Shortland Street’s 15.3% – 23.4%.

So closely contested was the night that overall TV2 won three of the four key demos and TV3 one — whereas the previous week TV3 was tops across the board.

Tuesday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • A18-49: TV One, 5.1 rating/19.3 share; TV2, 7.2 rating/27.1 share; TV3, 6.3 rating/23.6 share
  • A18-39: TV One, 4.8 rating/17.8 share; TV2, 7.4 rating/27.9 share; TV3, 6.7 rating/25.1 share
  • A25-54: TV One, 6.5 rating/21.6 share; TV2, 7.2 rating/23.7 share; TV3, 7.2 rating/23.8 share
  • HHS/k: TV One, 7.5 rating/21.2 share; TV2, 10.2 rating/29.1 share; TV3, 9.4 rating/26.7 share.

On Monday, TV2 largely ruled with its HD dramas Wentworth (7.4% – 11.8%) and Grey’s Anatomy (4.0% – 8.2%).

But its comedies Ground Floor and Cougar Town couldn’t capitalise on Shortland Street’s lead-in (13.6% – 22.9%) to beat The X Factor Australia.

TV3’s SD re-run of Sione’s Wedding trailed TV One’s Criminal Minds (3.7% – 9.4%) and, to a lesser extent, Castle (2.6% – 4.9%) in the 25-54 and HHS demos but out-rated them in the 18-39 and 189-49 demos.

  1. YAY, wonderful to see The Blacklist rating well, such a fantastic show 🙂

  2. Really enjoyed the 1st episode of The Blacklist and looking forward to watching the remainder of this series.

  3. Those figures for MKRNZ are terrible, could be this years next flop after The Great Food Race. TV One must be praying its own Block spin off doesn’t sink next year like its MKR adaptation has.

  4. Great to see The Blacklist back on screen. Always bet on the Red.
