The popularity of The Block NZ: Villa Wars pushed The Blacklist to a season high on Tuesday, with both shows winning their slots in all the core commercial demographics.

The Block averaged 8.5% – 11.9% and The Blacklist, 5.9% – 7.6%.

The former was well ahead of TV2’s My Kitchen Rules NZ (4.5% – 10.5%) in the 18-39 and 18-49 demos but competition was keener among 25-54s and household shoppers with kids.

MKR seesawed with TV1’s reality half-hours in every key demo except HHS/k.

At 8.30, TV1’s The Player (2.3% – 5.5%) beat TV2’s Step Dave (4.5% – 7.1%) only in the 25-54 stakes while the latter finished second to Blacklist in the rest.

Blacklist’s also benefitted from a big jump in consolidated viewership, with its rating for the previous week improving from 3.5% overnight to 6.7% after seven days of time shifting was measured, too.

TV2 swept the 9.30 hour with World’s Worst Holiday Horrors (4.8% – 7.1%), leaving TV1’s Battle Creek (1.6% – 5.1%) and TV3’s 7 Days of Sport (2.0% – 2.9%) to yo-yo for second place.

Overall, TV2 won the night in three of core demos, TV1 won 25-54 and TV3 posted big gains to top 20%-plus channel shares across the board:

  1. When are MediaWorks announcing their new season line up? I can’t wait any longer. I know Prime’s launch is next week and TVNZ declared their new season wares in September. Don’t disappoint us MediaWorks.

  2. MediaWorks isn’t having a new season launch this year. It’s been briefing ad agencies about its plans, and this week announced a slew of NZ renewals, but won’t be publicising its foreign acquisitions until January.

  3. Thanks Philip for the update. Fingers crossed their international content doesn’t disappoint.
