HD Ratings: Bones Buries Time Once More

A week ahead of TV3 running two episodes back to back, Bones out-rated HD rival Once Upon a Time in all of the major demographics.

The two series have been seesawing in the ratings for the past month.

Last night Bones averaged 6.0% – 9.2% versus 4.8% – 9.1% for Time. But it couldn’t match SD comedy Miranda’s 7.0% – 13.0% on TV One.

From next week, TV3 will team season eight of Bones with season six re-runs at 9.30.

TV3’s Wednesday HD drama, Sons of Anarchy, was beaten by TV2’s Hell’s Kitchen in the 18-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

It averaged 3.9% – 10.0%, and won the hour only with household shoppers.

It wasn’t helped by lead-in 3rd Degree continuing to underperform, with only 4.2% – 5.2% of key demos against TV2’s HD sitcoms The Big Bang Theory (18.1% – 22.7%) and 2 Broke Girls (15.1% – 18.5%).

Competition was much tighter on Tuesday, when TV3’s NCIS averaged 4.0% – 9.3% opposite 6.6% – 9.9% for Revenge on TV2 and 3.9% – 6.6% for Attenborough: 60 Years in the Wild in TV One.

NCIS: Los Angeles averaged 2.9% – 7.4%, and was most popular with adults 25-54, with whom it won the 9.30 hour.

TV3’s Monday night Drug Bust special on P averaged 3.8% – 6.4% to finish a distant third behind TV2’s My Kitchen Rules and TV One’s reality duo.

The latter’s Criminal Minds had another strong night, averaging 7.2% – 11.7% while lead-out The Following (3.8% – 7.3%) was twice as popular as The Blue Rose (0.9% – 3.9%).

On Sunday, MasterChef NZ again dominated, averaging 9.3% – 13.5%, but Mike & Molly performed strongly (8.7% – 12.0%) and Family Guy finished third (5.6% – 6.8%).

It also was a solid night for The Simpsons, with the 7.00 episode averaging 6.4% – 7.4% and the 7.30 ep, 7.6% – 9.7%.

Saturday saw MasterChef MasterClass start to heat up, with a 4.6% – 7.0% average, on the back of Country Calendar’s 6.4% – 11.2%.

TV2’s Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway also improved on its premiere, averaging 3.8% – 6.2%, while TV3, which used to own the 7.30 hour with Ice Road Truckers, shed viewers for its 8.30-10.30 CSI combo.

TV3’s Friday night HD comedies also took a hit from Mike King’s Commercial Chaos, which won the 7.30 hour for TV2, but The Graham Norton Show had the edge at 8.30, with 5.0% – 7.0%.
