HD Ratings: Close Encounters of the Second Kind

TV One’s Brief Encounters improved in its third week to beat TV3’s Hawaii Five-O in the 25-54 and 18-49 demographics on Wednesday.

It won the 8.30 hour in the 5+ contest but lost to TV2’s The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls in the key commercial demos.

The British comedy/drama’s appeal has been boosted by TV One replacing its original lead-in, Hatch, Match & Dispatch, with re-runs of SCU: Serious Crash Unit.

SCU won its slot with three times as many 25-54s that Hatch spawned two weeks earlier. (TV3 will be hoping for a similar turnaround this week now that it’s dumped Married at First Sight USA for movies and specials.)

TV2’s The Mysteries of Laura also got a lift after several weeks of sub-par ratings and helped it to win the night in all the core demos except 5+.

Below are the primetime ratings tables for Wednesday in the 25-54, 18-49 and 5+ contests (the first number under the programme’s title is the rating average and the second number the channel share):
