HD Ratings: Easter Movies Hatch Hits for TV2

TV2 dominated Easter Weekend ratings with HD movies like Police Academy and Bedtime Stories, with a repeat of the latter out-rating MasterChef NZ and TV3’s network premiere of Hop in key demographics.

The Adam Sandler comedy averaged 7.1% – 9.5% of the demos that matter most to broadcasters, compared to Hop’s 6.3% -8.5% and MasterChef’s 5.7% – 11.1%.

TV3’s HD repeat of My Life in Ruins (5.1% – 6.9%) also couldn’t match TV2’s SD premiere of The Time Traveler’s Wife (6.8% – 11.3%) but was competitive with TV One’s Packed to the Rafters (3.5% – 7.6%).

And TV3’s HD premiere of Kiwi movie The Hopes and Dreams of Gazza Snell (1.5% – 2.1%) was thrashed by TV2’s HD re-run of Michael  (3.1% -3.5%) and TV One’s SD repeat of Under the Tuscan Sun (2.2% – 4.9%).

TV3’s Friday night HD line-up of Modern Family, The New Normal and The Graham Norton Show was decimated by TV2’s movies, including the HD premiere of vintage comedy Police Academy (4.9% – 6.2%).

Similarly, Shrek the Third dominated Saturday night and while TV3’s CSI combo was down in most demos, it won the 8.30-10.30 block with household shoppers.

TV3’s The Blue Rose slipped again on Monday, with 2.7% – 4.6% compared with The Following’s 2.8% – 6.2%, while the latter’s lead-in, Criminal Minds, commanded 5.2% – 9.0%.

TV3’s 7.30 HD reality duo also proved half as popular as TV One’s, with Crime Exposed drawing only 1.3% – 4.5% and Territory Cops 1.8% – 5.0%.
