HD Ratings: Johnsons Not as Mighty as It Sounds

TV3 and NZ On Air must wonder if they were as crazy as the gods to invest in another season of The Almighty Johnsons.

The third and what must surely be the last season has been the lowest rating yet, with Thursday’s episode unable to top 4% of the any of the key demographics.

It averaged only 2.9% – 3.7% against relatively weak competition: TV2’s Arrow managed only 7.6% – 9.7% and TV One’s Gavin and Stacey 2.9% – 6.0% and Vicious 3.9% – 5.6%.

TV2 also won the 9.30 hour, with Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners averaging 5.6% – 6.5% against Winners & Losers’ 1.9% – 3.8% and Bones’ 1.2% – 2.5%.

There was better news for TV3 on Wednesday, when Breakout Kings out-rated Devious Maids with adults 18-39 and 25-54.

The crime drama averaged 3.8% – 4.1% of key demos and the Desperate Housewives spin-off, 3.6% – 6.4%.

Earlier in the night, The Block NZ’s 8.7% – 14.8% helped to lift 3rd Degree’s average to 3.9% – 6.1% — although TV2’s HD sitcoms The Big Bang Theory and Cougar Town drew 2-3 times as many viewers.

The Block NZ largely beat TV2’s 7.30 HD sitcoms in the adults 18-49 and 25-54 stakes but was out-rated in the 18-39 and household shoppers demos.

TV One’s premiere of Family Recipes (3.8% – 8.6%) finished third except with adults 25-54, with whom it was second after The Block NZ.
