HD Ratings: Movie Transforms TV3

TV3’s network premiere of Transformers: Dark of the Moon cast a shadow over the HD competition on Sunday and helped it to win the night.

It averaged 8.9% – 9.9% of the major demographics to beat TV One’s premiere of The Widower (3.9% – 8.3%) and TV2’s Agents of SHIELD (3.9% – 7.1%) and The Tomorrow People (2.2% – 5.3%).

But TV3 suffered a reversal of fortune at 7.00, when for the first time in weeks House Rules (5.3% – 7.8%) lost to TV2’s The Voice Australia (8.1% – 10.3%).

House Rules also trailed TV One’s Topp Country (5.4% – 7.1%) in the 18-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

The final of Breathless, in its later slot of 10.30, averaged 0.7% – 3.2%.

Earlier in the evening, TV3’s 5.30 re-run of The Simpsons (2.4% – 3.2%) out-rated TV One’s FIFA highlights (1.9% – 3.3%) but roughly drew half of TV2’s Home and Away omnibus audience in all the key demos except 25-54 (with whom it was more popular).

Sunday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • A18-49: TV One, 7.0 rating/21.2 share; TV2, 7.0 rating/21.1 share; TV3, 8.2 rating/24.6 share
  • A18-39: TV One, 5.7 rating/17.9 share; TV2, 6.9 rating/21.5 share; TV3, 8.5 rating/26.5 share
  • A25-54: TV One, 8.6 rating/24.1 share; TV2, 6.7 rating/18.8 share; TV3, 8.9 rating/25.1 share
  • HHS/k: TV One, 9.1 rating/23.2 share; TV2, 9.3 rating/23.6 share; TV3, 10.8 rating/27.4 share.

On Saturday, TV2’s re-run of Tron: Legacy (4.3% – 4.7%) was largely beaten by TV One’s factual entertainment line-up and, in the HHS/k demo, even TV3’s Secret Life of Dancers (2.5% – 3.8%).

But TV2’s 9.30 movie Knowing (4.0% – 5.9%) won the rest of the night, while TV3’s Blue Bloods averaged 1.6% – 3.4% and its re-run of Crisis’ premiere, 0.0% – 2.4%.

On Friday, a two-hour edition of The Voice Australia (8.2% – 11.9%) beat both House Rules (4.7% – 11.0%) and The Graham Norton Show (3.5% – 7.1%).

  1. Optimus Prime in the school holidays. He would rule! Compared to The Widower. However, both more than meet the eye.

  2. Dunno, Bay’s Optimus Prime is a bit of a whiner and always getting his ass kicked by the Deceptions … 😛
