HD Ratings: New Midwife Berth Delivers

Recalling the Midwife breathed new life into TV One’s Sunday night ratings.

The premiere of Call the Midwife in the nursing drama’s first 8.30 Sunday berth averaged 7.3% of adults 25-54, the channel’s target audience, and 9.2% of household shoppers.

It didn’t win the hour but was competitive with the network movie premieres of TV2’s The Karate Kid, which averaged 7.3% – 10.6% of the major demographics, and TV3’s X-Men: First Class (8.0% – 9.4%).

The penultimate broadcast of The X Factor NZ averaged 10.3% – 16.2% to easily win its slot while The Food Truck rated 4.7% – 7.9% and Mr Selfridge, 3.3% – 5.7%.

TV2’s Aussie variation on The X Factor, The Voice, took a hit at the weekend, with Saturday’s show averaging only 3.8% – 7.6% and Friday’s, 6.2% – 8.3%.

TV3’s House Rules averaged 4.9% – 6.8% on Friday and The Graham Norton Show, only 6.0% – 6.8%.

Saturday’s Mitre 10 Dream Home: Offcuts averaged 2.5% – 6.3% but was popular only with household shoppers while TV3’s second episode of Blue Bloods improved sharply on its premiere, to average 3.6% – 6.7%.

Hyundai Country Calendar mustered 4.4% – 8.6%, Coasters 3.2% – 5.5%, Dishing Up Australia With Al Brown 4.3% – 6.1%, and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, 1.8% – 4.9%.

Ice Road Truckers rolled on with 4.3% – 5.4% and TV2’s re-run of My Big Fat Greek Wedding averaged an unbeatable 4.8% – 7.1%.

The Almighty Johnsons‘ following faltered further Thursday, with only 2.3% – 3.3% of the key demos tuning in.

Arrow, in its second week in its new slot, raised its sights with 8.6% – 10.0% to largely win the hour, although Mrs Brown Boys was more popular with HHS.

Winners and Losers is struggling in its new Thursday slot, with only 2.5% – 3.7%, against weak HD competition on TV3, a re-run of Bones (1.5% – 3.5%).

Wednesday delivered another poorresult for 3rd Degree Presents The Vote (2.7% – 4.3%) opposite TV2’s unassailable HD comedies.

However, the lead-in they delivered Devious Maids was barely enough for the Desperate Housewives stablemate to be competitive with TV One’s Hoarding Buried Alive.

It averaged 5.9% – 8.9% and the latter, 6.1% – 8.6%.
