HD Ratings: Not Quite DOA

TV2’s punt on The Walking Dead’s primetime resurrection didn’t pay off Tuesday, when the zombie drama’s fourth season premiere averaged only 3.2% – 3.9% of the major demographics.

While it won the 9.30 hour with household shoppers, and adults 18-49 and 18-39, that was more a reflection of the weak competition than the show’s pulling power.

TV3’s Hawaii Five-O averaged 1.9% – 4.6% and won the slot with adults 25-54 while being competitive with adults 18-49.

TV One’s Scandal successor, The School, flunked with only 2.5% – 3.4% of the key demos.

Its HD lead-in, Wild Planet: North America, averaged 3.9% – 5.8% for its premiere, opposite The Mentalist’s 5.5% – 8.9% and Grand Designs Revisited’s 4.7% – 6.9%.

At 7.30, The Block NZ dominated, averaging 10.0% – 15.3% against its HD rival, The Amazing Race’s less-than-amazing 5.4% – 5.9%.

The Block was also cock of the hoop on Monday, with 13.4% – 16.5%.

That helped TV3’s re-run of Fast & Furious to average 7.8% – 8.2% and largely win its slot.

But it was a better week for Grey’s Anatomy, with the ailing hospital drama averaging a sprightlier 7.0% – 9.4% opposite Person of Interest’s 5.3% – 8.7%.

Castle, at 9.30, averaged 1.7% – 5.9%.
