HD Ratings: Race Ends Run in Winning Form

After being winded by TV3’s The Block NZ early on in its run, TV2’s The Amazing Race wound up its 20th season way out in front on Tuesday.

It averaged 9.4% – 14.9% of the key demographics — adults 18-39, 18-49, 25-54, household shoppers with kids — on the back of Shortland Street’s 14.1% – 20.6%.

TV One’s The Incredible Mr Goodwin (3.3% – 5.1%) finished a distant third, behind TV3’s Australian Federal Police (6.0% – 10.5%) and Kings Cross ER (4.7% – 8.4%).

But at 8.30, TV one supersized its Tuesday ratings with the SD premiere of Supersized Earth.

It averaged 6.2% – 9.2% against The Mentalist’s 6.8% – 11.1%, which was down on the previous week; indeed, as Supersized Earth’s ratings climbed over the hour, The Mentalist’s declined.

And in TV One’s target demo, adults 25-54, it narrowly beat The Mentalist: 8.4% vs 8.2%.

TV3’s World’s Scariest … Animal Attacks improved on last week’s low, with 4.5% – 6.6% ahead of Hawaii Five-O’s 2.4% – 3.9%.

TV2’s The Walking Dead (4.4% – 6.7%) won the 9.30 hour but Five-O was competitive in the 25-54 stakes, where a point separated the two.

On Monday, TV3’s re-run of The Bourne Supremacy (4.1% – 6.4%) was no match for TV One’s season finale of Person of Interest (3.8% – 9.4%) or TV2’s SD re-run of Hitch (8.1% – 8.6%).

The Middle (9.3% – 15.1%) dominated at 7.30, on the back of Shortland Street’s 14.1% – 20.9% while Hamish & Andy Gap Year Asia averaged 6.4% – 8.3%.

The latter’s viewership improved post-Middle while TV One’s 9.30 drama Red Widow drew roughly a third of its lead-in.
