HD Ratings: Roots a Runaway Hit

TV One’s Sunday night premiere of the Roots re-make won its slot with the network’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds.

The first of four parts averaged a 7.9 rating and a 27% channel share.

It helped TV One to win the night in the 25-54 and 18-49 demos, with TVNZ reporting a “massive” 27% jump in viewership on the previous three-week average.

TV2 was the second most-watched channel of the night in its 18-49 core demo, with My Kitchen Rules rating an 8.2% — its second highest Sunday rating this year — and recording a 24.8% share (23.5% last week).

However, it wasn’t enough to topple TV3’s The Block NZ: Girls vs Boys, which won its time slot and out-rated MKR in the 25-54 and 18-49 demos.

TV3’s Friday night boxing special was a knockout, winning its timeslot in all the key demos: 25-54, 18-39, 18-49 and household shoppers with kids.

Last night, TV2 was the most watched channel in three of these demos.

Its share of 18-49 improved by five points, to 31%, and it averaged an 8.1 rating in this demo (compared to 5.9 the previous week).

Shortland Street had its highest 18-49 Monday rating for the year (15.7) and a 49% share that was up by four points week on week.

MKR and First Dates UK also won their slots in the same demo.
