HD Ratings: Sly Scheduling Maroons Competition

TV2’s network movie premiere of The Expendables 2 slaughtered TV3’s re-run of Nim’s Island on Thursday.

The wheezing geezers-with-guns sequel averaged 5.2% – 6.0% of the major demographics to win its slot against weak competition.

The previous week’s repeat of the original Expendables rated lower because it faced a fiercer foe — Lara Croft Tomb Raider — whereas Nim’s Island averaged only 2.8% – 3.7% and TV1’s Miranda final, 2.4% – 6.1%.

Only among TV1’s target 25-54 audience did Miranda challenge Expendables 2 — but only enough to win the first quarter hour.

Shortland Street’s ratings continued to suffer the summer blues both on Thursday (8.7% – 11.7%) and Wednesday (8.4% – 11.4%).

TV2 also struggled with the rest of its Wednesday line-up, with a double-episode of Mike & Molly winning outright only among household shoppers with kids while lead-out Little Man drew a minuscule audience (1.3% – 1.9%).

Rarely, if ever, has a TV2 movie in primetime not topped 2.0% of the major demos.

TV3’s Catch and Release (3.0% – 4.1%) was more popular but largely lost to TV1’s The Island With Bear Grylls (3.2% – 5.0%) and seesawed with Hotel of Mum and Dad (2.0% – 2.2%).
