HD Ratings: Some A-List Dramas Flasher Than Others

TV One’s The Mentalist is on top of more people’s must-see lists than TV3’s The Blacklist.

Tuesday’s episode out-rated its HD rival in all the key demographics, averaging 4.2% – 7.1%.

Despite screening on the back of the top-rating The Block NZ (8.7% – 12.1%), The Blacklist could muster only 3.2% – 5.6% — whereas The Mentalist was delivered a much lower lead-in from My Kitchen Rules NZ (4.4% – 8.0%).

The Blacklist’s dismal ratings also impacted on its lead-out out, Sons of Anarchy (3.1% – 5.4%).

Although the bikie drama still managed to win the 9.30 hour in the 18-39 and household shopper demos, neither series is fulfilling expectations for two hot US dramas that have been fast-tracked here.

Even TV One’s Unforgettable was more popular than SOA with the viewers it targets, 18-49 and 25-54 year-olds.

TV2 dominated on Monday with its dramas Wentworth (7.7% – 13.1%) and The Walking Dead (6.1% – 13.1%) but Sunday’s Gotham (4.3% – 7.0%) and Agents of SHIELD (1.6% – 4.7%) struggled against TV3’s re-run of Bridesmaids (5.3% – 6.9%), which won all the key demos and helped TV3 to win the night.

Nonetheless, TV One’s dramas were sturdy, were Call the Midwife averaging 4.0% – 6.3% and A Place to Call Home 3.3% – 5.8%.

TV2 and TV3 seesawed on Saturday, with their movies and crime procedurals.

But TV3 dwarfed the competition on Friday, with The Block NZ and The Graham Norton Show, while TV2’s The Flash and Arrow proved to be the dynamic duo on Thursday, easily beating their HD rivals.

TV3 scooped Wednesday, with the unprecedented feat of winning all the key demos across the night, from The Block NZ and 3rd Degree to Gang Related and The Paul Henry Show.
