HD Ratings: Step Dave Takes a Step Back

After last week’s rebound, Step Dave was laid low by NCIS on Tuesday, which helped TV3 to celebrate it first nightly win with its target audience in weeks.

The veteran crime hit largely won the 8.30 hour in all the key demographics, averaging 6.6% – 10.5% of adults 18-39, 18-49, 25-54 and household shoppers with kids.

Even in the demo where NCIS did lose, 18-39, only a point separated the two and it was virtually a tie because each show won two quarter-hour segments.

The Kiwi comedy-drama averaged 5.9% – 8.9%, which was down sharply on the previous week’s episode (8.6% – 11.4%).

That was partly because Step Dave’s lead-in also was much lower: Nabbed averaged 10.2% – 13.4% and Neighbours at War 7.2% – 9.5%.

TV3’s NCIS lead-in, Grand Designs, was up on the previous week — 5.1% – 8.8% — as was TV One’s Surveillance Oz (3.5% – 6.9%).

Australia’s Deadliest was steady (3.3% – 5.6%) but the final of Hidden Kingdoms (2.8% – 5.3%) was down on the previous week.

At 9.30, Revenge (4.2% – 8.0%) and NCIS: LA (4.0% – 6.7%) seesawed while Scandal at 10.30 averaged 1.4% – 2.9%, which was similar to what it used to achieve in primetime.

Tuesday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • Adults 18-49: TV One, 4.6 rating/17.6 share; TV2, 7.2 rating/27.5 share; TV3, 6.6 rating/25.2 share
  • Adults 18-39: TV One, 4.0 rating/16.8 share; TV2, 7.2 rating/30.1 share; TV3, 5.4 rating/22.4 share
  • Adults 25-54: TV One, 5.5 rating/18.8 share; TV2, 7.1 rating/24.1 share; TV3, 8.1 rating/27.7 share
  • HHS: TV One, 7.0 rating/20.1 share; TV2, 9.7 rating/27.7 share; TV3, 9.6 rating/27.6 share.

  1. NCIS would have to be the ugliest looking HD show around. It’s soft and fuzzy with smeared colour – is it really shot in HD? Comparison with NCIS-LA is night and day.

  2. Couldn’t agree more — although The Walking Dead isn’t much better …
