HD Ratings: Talent Loses Lustre on Smurfs’ Turf

Season two of New Zealand’s Got Talent premiered to much lower ratings than the series debut a year ago.

It averaged 8.9% – 13.9% of the major demographics on Sunday compared to 17.4% – 22.6% for its launch in 2012.

Whereas the latter averaged 21.4% of TV One’s target audience adults 25-54, Sunday’s bow mustered half as many: 11.4%.

Viewership built over the 90 minute but the network movie premiere of The Smurfs dominated the early evening, averaging 10.7% – 14.8% against TV3’s re-run of Horton Hears a Who’s 2.9% – 4.5%.

TV3’s repeat of Juno was even less popular — 2.8% – 39% — while TV One’s penultimate episode of Call the Midwife averaged 5.4% – 7.7% ahead of Mr Selfridge’s 2.1% – 3.6%.

Saturday’s Duck Dynasty nosedived after its premiere the previous week, with only 4.2% – 7.0% of the key demos, against Country Calendar’s 3.3% – 6.9%.

Sky’s live and Prime’s delayed international rugby coverage blitzed the networks and Friday TV2’s comedies thrashed TV3’s HD premiere of Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son (3.4% – 5.6%).

Packed to the Rafters’ return on Thursday helped TV One to win the 8.30 hour with adults 25-54 but otherwise TV2’s Arrow was tops (5.7% – 9.4%).

The Almighty Johnsons averaged 4.7% – 4.9% and Street Hospital won its slot with 7.5% – 12.9%.

  1. The Almighty Johnsons is VERY interesting at the moment … wonder what is going to happen in the last two episodes of season three? 🙂

  2. I wasn’t expecting such a massive drop with NZ’s Got Talent, it’s not doing what MasterChef managed to achieve by growing the audience year on year. Time will tell if it improves. TV One will be happy with Rafters performance and it would have been better if the lead-out was Winners and Losers.
