HD Ratings: Top of the Pots Beats Top of the Pops

The season finales of MasterChef NZ and My Kitchen Rules clobbered The X Factor NZ over the long weekend.

On Monday, MKR averaged 19.4% – 23.8% of the key demographics compared to X Factor’s 9.6% – 14.0%

Sunday’s contest between X Factor and MasterChef was closer, with the former averaging 7.9% – 9.6% and the latter, 10.1% – 12.3%.

TV One’s outstanding new HD period drama, The Crimson Petal and the White, rated only 0.7% – 1.1% at 10.30, and TV3’s 11.00 HD premiere of Conviction, 1.6% – 3.6%.

Earlier in the night, the network’s HD re-run of Old School flopped with 4.7% – 5.5%.

TV3’s Monday movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, didn’t fare much better, with only 4.5% – 5.4% against MKR and even worse ratings for TV One’s Criminal Minds (4.0% – 5.1%) and Castle (2.2% – 3.9%).

The only programme to rival MKR’s popularity was the hour-long episode of Shortland Street (17.9% -24.2%).

TV3 won Saturday night, when its CSI/NY combo dominated post-8.30 and Jamie’s 15-Minutes Meals out-rated TV One’s Country Calendar — 2.9% – 6.5% — ahead of MasterChef MasterClass finale’s 3.6% – 8.4%.

On Friday, TV2’s The Voice Australia (12.3% – 16.2%) drew 3-4 times as many viewers as TV3’s HD sitcoms but the latter’s Graham Norton Show rebounded with 6.5% – 7.6% to finish a clear second at 8.30 while its post-9.30 SD comedies won their slots.

TV3’s Chelsea NZ’s Hottest Home Baker (4.7% – 7.9%) was competitive with Thursday’s Coronation Street but was thrashed by TV2’s reality shows, although lead-out Bones was only narrowly beaten by Once Upon a Time.

It was business as usual on Wednesday, with TV3’s Kiwi HD duo 3rd Degree (3.7% – 5.3%) and Harry (3.0% – 4.0%) being crushed by TV2’s The Big Bang Theory (20.1% -24.5%), 2 Broke Girls (14.4% – 15.8%) and Arrow (9.6% – 10.8%).
