HD Ratings: TV3 Rules Sunday’s Crowded HD House

The premiere of Erebus: Operation Overdue and the season finale of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD couldn’t stop TV3 from beating its free-to-air HD rivals in all the key demographics for the second Sunday night in a row.

TV One’s Sunday Theatre documentary about the aviation disaster averaged 4.8% – 7.9% of the major demos and was most popular with TV One’s 25-54 target audience.

It largely won the slot with the latter but lost in the other demos to TV3’s top-rating double-bill, the two-hour finale of House Rules (6.6% – 10.9%) and its movie premiere, No Strings Attached (5.1% – 9.0%).

The first hour of TV2’s SHIELD finale averaged 5.3% – 9.5% and the second hour, 3.4% – 5.3%.

It out-rated Erebus among household shoppers with kids but otherwise finished third, despite a competitive lead-in from new episodes of The Middle (5.7% – 9.0%) and The Neighbors (4.7% – 8.3%) in the face of House Rules and TV One’s Sunday (5.7% – 8.3%) and Topp Country (5.4% – 7.5%).

Week-on-week, TV3’s ratings and shares were up, TV One’s were stable and TV2’s were down.

Sunday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • A18-49: TV One, 6.8 rating/22.9 share; TV2, 4.9 rating/16.5 share; TV3, 7.1 rating/24.0 share
  • A18-39: TV One, 5.7 rating/19.6 share; TV2, 4.8 rating/16.8 share; TV3, 7.1 rating/24.5 share
  • A25-54: TV One, 8.7 rating/26.4 share; TV2, 5.0 rating/15.3 share; TV3, 8.0 rating/24.2 share
  • HHS/k: TV One, 8.3 rating/22.2 share; TV2, 8.0 rating/21.3 share; TV3, 11.0 rating/29.5 share.

Saturday’s biggest HD drawcard was TV One’s Hyundai Country Calendar (5.3% – 10.5%) but the network’s new Saturday Murder Mystery strand, which opened with the return of Vera, averaged only 0.8% – 2.3%.

The latter was competitive with TV3’s Blue Bloods (1.8% – 3.9%) except among HHS/k while TV2’s repeat of Hoodwinked flopped so badly (2.1% – 2.7%) that it barely rated above the network’s 4.30 re-run of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

TV2 fared better with its SD repeat of The Departed (3.6% – 4.8%) and on Friday beat House Rules (5.5% – 7.9%) with The Voice Australia (7.8% – 8.9%).
