HD Ratings: Tuesday Tussle Tightens

TV3’s The Blacklist and Sons of Anarchy rebounded on Tuesday but still couldn’t beat TV One’s The Mentalist and Unforgettable – although all the HD dramas largely rated higher than TV2’s reality line-up.

The Mentalist, which starts its final 13-episode season at the end of the month in the US, averaged 5.3% – 10.4% of the major demographics compared to The Blacklist’s 5.5% – 9.3%.

Only among 18-39 year-olds did TV2’s The Voice (5.1% – 6.2%) have the edge.

At 9.30, Unforgettable rated 5.9% – 7.2% versus 3.7% – 6.7% for Sons of Anarchy, 2.8% – 4.3% for The Bogan Hunters and 2.0% – 3.2% for Neighbours at War.

Two hours earlier, The Block NZ (12.8% – 18.8%) crushed the first half of The Voice and TV One’s Dynamo: Magician Impossible (5.0% – 10.2%) — which helped TV3 to win the night in three of the four key demos.

Tuesday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

On Monday’s, TV3’s newest HD drama The Night Shift failed to capitalise on The X Factor Australia’s finale.

Despite a lead-in of 6.9% – 8.2%, it averaged only 1.1% – 2.3% against a rampant Walking Dead (6.4% – 11.1%) and a sturdy Castle (1.9% – 5.3%).

While the second half of X’s two-hour swansong (6.9% – 8.2%) out-rated Wentworth (5.2% – 8.9%) and Criminal Minds (4.3% – 10.1%), the first half finished well behind TV2’s season premiere of The Amazing Race (7.4% – 10.8%).
