HD Ratings: TV One Gives Rivals Wake-Up Call

Despite TV2 reinstating its Sunday Premiere Movie slot and TV3 launching The X Factor Australia, TV One was the “mouse” that roared on Sunday.

TV2’s Mirror Mirror averaged 5.8% – 8.2% of the majors demographics to beat TV3’s premiere of Ted (4.5% – 6.8%) in all the key demos except 18-39 year-olds.

It also out-rated TV One’s otherwise competitive Nancy Wake: The White Mouse (3.9% – 7.3%) across the board.

But TV One’s news bulletin clobbered the competition and the network also dominated from 7.00-8.00 with Sunday (9.1% – 13.8%), which helped lead-out Radar Across the Pacific to average an impressive 7.1% – 9.9% for its season premiere.

While the first hour of X Factor Oz see-sawed with TV2’s comedies The Big Bang Theory (6.4% – 8.0%) and The Middle (6.6% – 8.0%), it out-rated The Neighbors (6.2% – 8.6%) and Radar to average 7.8% – 8.8% overall.

All of the HD networks were competitive but TV One came out on top for the night, winning three of the four key demos.

Sunday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • A18-49: TV One, 7.8 rating/26.5 share; TV2, 6.0 rating/22.0 share; TV3, 6.5 rating/22.0 share
  • A18-39: TV One, 7.0 rating/23.9 share; TV2, 5.7 rating/19.4 share; TV3, 7.6 rating/26.0 share
  • A25-54: TV One, 9.5 rating/29.1 share; TV2, 6.2 rating/19.0 share; TV3, 6.8 rating/20.7 share
  • HHS/k: TV One, 10.6 rating/31.5 share; TV2, 7.6 rating/22.6 share; TV3, 7.5 rating/22.4 share.

TV One’s Hyundai Country Calendar (10.0% – 11.8%) dominated Saturday HD’s ratings, averaging well ahead of Up! (4.6% – 7.8%), The Secret Lives of Dancers (2.2% – 3.9%), Undercover Boss (2.2% – 3.9%), Extract (4.1% – 6.1%), Vera (0.5% – 1.6%) and Blue Bloods (1.6% – 3.6%).

Primetime was hit hard by Sky’s Super Rugby and NRL coverage, with TV3’s late movie Martha Marcy May Marlene (2.0% – 4.3%) out-rating its lead-in as well as TV2’s The Lincoln Lawyer and TV One’s The Artist.

The penultimate edition of TV2’s The Voice Australia (9.9% – 11.2%) won its Friday slot but lead-out Muriel’s Wedding’s performance (1.7% – 2.4%) was just terrible.

  1. The ratings are certainly hard to predict as I would have thought Ted would have been more popular than Mirror Mirror.
