HD Ratings: TV2 Gives Sunday Line-Up the Chop

TV2 is ditching its Sunday night sitcoms and Neighbours at War for movies.

It announced the rescheduling soon after Sunday’s ratings revealed Neighbours, The Big Bang Theory and Mike & Molly hit season lows and finished third after TV One’s Sunday and The Food Truck and TV3’s Ice Age 2.

From Sunday, TV2 will double-bill movies, starting with The Spy Next Door (HD) at 7.00, which will square off against Ice Age 3, and Salt (SD) at 8.55.

TV2’s HD premiere of The Tourist last Sunday largely won its slot, averaging 6.3% – 12.2% of the major demographics.

But the Ice Age sequel (7.6% – 12.9%) crushed Neighbours at War (3.6% – 7.7%), Big Bang (4.2% – 7.4%) and Mike & Molly (4.4% – 7.3%).

TV One’s Call the Midwife averaged 4.0% – 7.5% and its HD stablemate Mr Selfridge, 2.6% – 3.5%.

TV2’s Monday HD sitcoms also were off their early season highs: The Middle averaged 7.2% – 12.5% and Suburgatory, 6.1% – 10.2%.

They were beaten by TV One’s Dog Squad (9.3% – 15.5%) and Life Flight (8.4% – 15.3%) – although the tables were turned at 8.30, when Grey’s Anatomy (6.7% – 11.7%) largely surpassed Person of Interest (4.5% -7.8%).

Similarly, Castle (2.2% – 5.5%) was defenceless against the season finale of Wentworth (5.6% – 9.1%).

Earlier in the evening, TV3’s Storm City averaged 3.5% – 5.4% while at 10.30, the penultimate episode of Shameless rated 3.4% – 5.0%.

TV2 largely dominated Saturday with The Voice Australia (4.1% – 6.8%) and the movie Going the Distance (4.1% – 5.5%), although TV3 sporadically challenged with Ice Road Truckers (4.7% – 5.1%) and TV One with its post-Country Calendar (6.2% – 8.2%) fare of Coasters (3.7% -5.7%), Dishing Up Australia With Al Brown (3.5% – 5.4%) and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (2.1% – 4.8%).

Friday’s House Rules (6.6% – 13.3%) largely won the 7.30 hour, leaving The Voice Australia with 6.6% – 8.0% and helping to boost Graham Norton’s ratings to its highest in weeks: 5.1% – 10.7%.

But the upsurge only marginally lifted Kiwi HD comedy Super City’s average, to 2.7% – 4.4%.

  1. Good to see movies at 7pm on TV2, but Super City is lame — 7Days and Jono and Ben at 10 should on every Friday.

  2. The Spy Next Door is a real low for Jackie Chan and most likely for TV2 as well 🙂
