HD Ratings: TV3 Retaliates with GI Joe

TV1’s Sunday night premiere of Doctor Foster won the 8.30 hour in the 5+ and 25-54 demographics but stablemate Cuffs shed more than half of this viewership.

As a result, TV3’s network movie premiere of GI Joe: Retaliation won the 8.30-10.30 zone in the 18-49, 25-54 and household-shoppers-with-kids demos.

It averaged 4.2% – 6.5% of these groups compared to 3.4% – 4.7% for TV2’s network movie premiere of Scary Movie 5.

Doctor Foster averaged 3.7% – 5.1% and Cuffs, 1.3% – 2.4%; in the 5+ contest, Foster scored 8.4%, Cuffs 3.8%, Scary Movie 5 2.5% and GI Joe, 3.3%.

The final of Shark delivered Foster a solid lead-in in the 25-54, HHS/k and 5+ demos (5.2% – 8.0%) despite tough competition from TV3’s House Rules (4.3% – 6.2%) — the latter won the 7.30 hour in the 18-49, 25-54 and HHS/k races.

TV3 also had a strong night with its news hour beating TV1’s in the 18-39, 18-49 and HHS/k ratings.

Overall, TV3 won the night among 18-49s (5.2 rating/20.9 share) and HHS/k (6.8 rating/23.7 share) while TV1 narrowly won with 25-54s (5.8 rating/20.2 share)

TV2 comfortably dominated among 18-39s (5.0 rating/21.5 share), with its repeat of Tangled scoring highest in this demo (5.2%).

On Saturday, TV3’s late-minute addition of Labyrinth, in memory of David Bowie, paid off, with the 1986 movie winning its slot in the four core commercial demos and even beating TV2’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth in the 5+ stakes.
