HD Ratings: TV3’s New Recipe for Success?

After an up-and-down first week, controversial Campbell Live replacement Come Dine With Me NZ is currying favour with viewers.

Monday’s episode challenged Seven Sharp in all of the commercial demographics.

It averaged 5.3% – 7.0% compared to SS’s 5.9% – 8.2% — but did so off the back of a much lower lead-in: 3 News averaged 5.7% – 7.2% compared to One News’ 10.3% – 13.9%.

Both 7pm shows trailed well behind the one-hour Shortland Street (12.9% – 20.5%), which set up TV2 to dominate the night with My Kitchen Rules (13.0% – 18.9%) and the season finale of The Mysteries of Laura (6.2% – 10.0%).

Only in the 25-54 demo did Laura falter against TV1’s Forever (2.4% – 8.0%), which improved on lead-in Criminal Minds (3.7% – 6.4%) among household shoppers with kids.

TV3’s success with Come Dine didn’t flow into The Embassy (2.6% – 4.5%), which again was the weak link between it and the Dancing With the Stars results show (3.9% – 5.4%).

TV3’s reality hours Married at First Sight and Reality Trip finished third in the 25-54 and HHS/k demos but were competitive in the other key measures.

Not surprisingly, TV2 easily won the night with massive HD channel shares of 28.8% – 40.0%:
