HD Ratings: Undateables Still Unbeatable

TV3’s network movie premiere of 47 Ronin notched up better numbers than its castigated coverage of the Vodafone NZ Music Awards the previous Thursday but TV2’s The Undateables was still untouchable.

The samurai warrior adventure averaged 3.2% – 5.7% of the core commercial demographics compared to 2.6% – 3.5% for the live awards broadcast a week earlier.

It out-rated TV1’s 800 Words in all the key demos except 25-54 but was sliced and diced by The Undateables, which averaged 7.5% – 12.1%.

The first of TV2’s Highway Patrol compilations won the 7.30 hour with 6.3% – 9.7%, opposite TV1’s 90-minute MasterChef Australia (3.6% – 6.1%) and TV3’s The X Factor UK (4.2% – 7.3%).

On Wednesday, MasterChef launched with 4.0% – 5.7% to finish a distant third behind TV2’s comedies and TV3’s The Block NZ: Villa Wars (6.7% – 10.0%).

Such was the surge of interest in the sitcoms that they also beat The Block in the 18-39 and household shopper demos.

After several low-rating weeks, The Middle averaged 7.0% – 13.6%, The Big Bang Theory 6.8% – 11.7% for it 8.00 re-run and 8.7% – 13.1% for its 8.30 original, and Mom 7.7% – 11.1%.

TV3’s X Factor averaged 3.5% – 6.4% and the final of TV1’s The DNA Detectives, 2.6% – 5.6%.

TV2’s special, The Day I Almost Died, won the 9.30 hour with 5.5% – 6.5%.

On Tuesday, TV2’s Step Dave bowed out with 4.8% – 8.9%, to easy beat the mid-season finale of TV3’s The Blacklist in the 18-39 and HHS demos.

But the two seesawed in the 18-49s and 25-54s while TV1’s The Player limped off air with 1.0% – 3.0%.

TV2’s Empire (3.4% -7.9%) won at 9.30 against TV1’s Battle Creek (1.0% – 2.6%) and TV3’s SVU (2.6% – 3.6%).

Earlier, TV2’s My Kitchen Rules NZ (5.3% – 12.1%) topped TV3’s The Block (6.2% – 9.7%) among HHS but lost to it in the other key demos.

On Monday,  The Block won outright (8.1% – 12.3%) but TV2’s Caught on Dash Cam (7.4% – 13.2%) crushed the mid-season finale of Heroes Reborn (2.8% – 4.2%) and TV1’s re-run of Criminal Minds (4.4% – 6.3%).

TV1’s Castle (2.9% – 5.4%) won the 9.30 hour in the 25-54 demo but lost to TV2’s The Walking Dead (4.2% – 8.7%) in the rest while TV3’s 3D staggered on with 1.6% – 2.4%.

Sunday’s network premiere of Thor: The Dark World wasn’t strong enough to hammer TV3’s Grand Designs NZ.

Indeed, off the back of The Block’s time slot-winning 7.5% – 13.5%, TV3’s architectural hit averaged an unbeatable 7.5% – 12.1%.

Thor did dominate the rest of the night to average 6.5% – 8.8% overall off the back of Supergirl’s puny 3.6% – 6.4%.

With The Muppets (1.0% – 3.2%) as its lacklustre lead-in, the Superman spin-off could only average 3.6% -3.8% in the key age age demos.

TV1’s Life Story averaged 2.8% – 4.8%, Call the Midwife 2.3% – 4.6% and Love Child, 2.0% – 4.2%.

TV2 and TV3’s movies were competitive on Saturday while the latter’s light-ent line-up on Friday bounced back to largely beat TV2’s, although Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris yo-yoed with The Graham Norton Show in the 18-39 and HHS demos.
