HD Ratings: Unhappy Hour for Variety Show Kick-Off

TV One’s new variety show was anything but a happy hour for the network when it launched opposite Prime’s delayed international rugby coverage.

Saturday’s premiere of Happy Hour averaged only 0.7% – 2.7% of the major demographics compared to 6.0% – 6.5% for the rugby.

But it was competitive with TV3’s Blue Bloods (1.1% – 2.6%) if not TV2’s movie Grandma’s Boy (2.7% – 3.9%) and in line with what TV One typically rates at 9.30 on a Saturday.

Sky’s live rugby coverage dominated earlier in the night, with 6.7% – 9.0% of the key demos, but TV3’s Ice Road Truckers still rated strongly (3.5% – 7.6%) while TV One’s Hyundai Country Calendar bowed out on a time-slot winning 5.9% – 10.1%.

Coronation Street in its first Saturday airing averaged 1.5% – 3.9% opposite SVU’s 2.0% – 5.1% and 4.2% – 4.9% for TV2’s movie The Proposal.

On Sunday, TV2 dominated with its movie White Chicks (6.1% – 7.1%) opposite TV One’s Call the Midwife (3.9% – 6.5%) and A Place to Call Home (1.5% – 4.6%), and TV3’s network HD movie premiere of The Descendants (3.1% – 3.7%).

At 7.30, TV One’s My Kitchen Rules NZ (5.8% – 8.0%) out-rated TV2’s comedies and TV3’s The X Factor Australia.

On Friday, TV3’s The Block NZ (6.7% -11.4%) topped TV2’s The Voice Kids Australia (6.4% – 8.0%) and, except in the 25-54 demo, TV One’s Vote 2014 Leaders Debate.
