HD Ratings: Walking Dead Showdown Enlivens Late-Night

Wednesday’s late-night season finale of The Walking Dead out-rated primetime shows Winners & Losers and 3rd Degree in some of the key demographics.

Despite starting at 10.50, the zombie drama averaged 3.5% – 6.5%, drew more than 4.0% of adults 18-39 and 18-49, and was most popular with household shoppers.

At 8.30, Winners & Losers, which TV One has pulled mid-season, averaged 3.2% – 5.7% of key demos and its HD rival, 3rd Degree, 4.5% – 5.2%.

TV3’s current affairs rebounded slightly with its return to format after posting a season low last week for the first of its monthly The Vote specials.

The Big Bang Theory was again Wednesday night’s biggest HD drawcard, averaging 16.5% – 18.7% — higher than Shortland Street’s 13.0% – 17.4%.

It  was even more popular than mega-hit lead-in My Kitchen Rules among adults 18-39 (16.8% vs 16.5%).

Lead-out 2 Broke Girls, which is losing viewers in the US, averaged an impressive 13.0% – 14.4% while TV3’s bikie hit Sons of Anarchy narrowly won the 9.30 hour with 6.1% – 8.1%.

Meanwhile, three characters introduced in The Walking Dead’s third season will be back as regulars in its fourth while a key character who exited the show last night has been dubbed one of TV’s 21 all-time “most annoying“.
