HD Ratings: Walking Dead Hits the Ground Running

Monday’s mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead won its time slot in three of the four key demographics.

It averaged 4.6% – 10.6% of these demos and commanded channel shares of 20% – 36%.

Only among adults 25-54 did it lose to TV1’s season finale of Castle (2.2% – 5.7%) and TV3’s Tower Heist (4.4% – 5.4%).

New TVNZ dramas Stalker and The Mysteries of Laura were steady, with the former averaging 3.8% – 7.2% on TV1 and the latter 5.3% – 12.9% on TV2.

But Stalker did out-rate lead-in Our First Home (2.1% – 6.5%), which collapsed after Sunday’s top-rating premiere and was demolished in all the key demos except household shoppers by TV3’s The Block: Glasshouse.

Laura, on the other hand, was helped by top-rating lead-ins Shortland Street (12.3% – 19.0%), The Middle (7.9% – 13.0%) and Cougar Town (7.0% – 12.4%).

TV2’s 57th Grammy Awards coverage also rated well, with the live afternoon broadcast averaging 2.3% – 4.0%, delivering channel shares of 23% – 38%, while the late-night re-run averaged 1.1% – 3.4%.
