HDTV Heads-Up: July 20-27

TV One is axing HD whodunit Vera after only two weeks.

The Brenda Blethyn vehicle will air 8.30pm Friday for the last time this week after appalling ratings for its premiere.

Replacing it on July 20 will be an SD repeat of the movie, The Man Who Sued God, and the following week an Absolutely Fabulous Olympics special will air.

On July 22, TV One will air in its Audi NZ Sunday Theatre slot The Golden Hour (pictured).

It’s billed as “the inspirational true story of New Zealand’s greatest ever day at the Olympics, based on the experiences of Olympians Peter Snell and Murray Halberg, and their coach Arthur Lydiard.”

And two days later, in the 8.30pm Tuesday travelogue slot, it will premiere First Crossings, a series in which two Kiwi adventurers recreate the journeys of early pioneers.

Also of note in HD that week are:

❑ The season finales of Judy Bailey’s Australia on Saturday (TV One, 8.30), Planet Dinosaur on Sunday (TV One, 7.00), Modern Family on Monday (TV3, 8.00) and NCIS on Tuesday (TV3, 8.30)

❑ The season-two premiere of Body of Proof on Tuesday (TV2, 9.30)

❑ A two-hour Two and a Half Men retrospective of Charlie Sheen’s favourite episodes on Wednesday (TV2, 7.30)

❑ Re-runs of the movies I Think I Love My Wife on Saturday (TV3, 10.25) and 12 Rounds on Monday (TV3, 8.30).
