HDTV Ratings: April 26-27

After having finally decided to bite the bullet and take Hawaii Five-0 off-air, the Steve McGarrett reboot last night rebounded in the ratings.

They were still low – 7.5% of household shoppers with kids, 5.5% of 18-49 year-olds, 6.5% of 25-54 year-olds – but up sharply on last week’s shocking nadir opposite TV2’s sitcom juggernaut of The Big Bang Theory and Cougar Town.

The penultimate season-two episode of lead-out Sons of Anarchy out-rated TV One’s Beyond the Darklands but not a resurging Drop Dead Diva on TV2 (except among HHS/kids).

TV3’s crime fix rated higher on Tuesday, where NCIS: Los Angeles has been steadily narrowing the gap with TV2’s Go Girls, although still trails it by three rating points in the older demos and by five with TV2’s target audience, 18-39 year-olds.

But with HHS/kids, NCIS: LA was ahead, drawing 13.7% versus Go Girls’ 10.9%.

And at 9.30pm, TV2’s HD medical drama, Off the Map, continues to ail opposite SVU, which easily beats it in all the major demos.

On the HD factual programming front, TV3’s Missing Pieces has built into a solid 8pm Tuesday anchor that’s now out-rating TV2’s Hell’s Kitchen across the board.

But TV One’s 8pm Wednesday newcomer, Family Feuds, doesn’t have the same appeal as its HD predecessor, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Teenagers, and is finishing third after Scrubs on TV2 and 60 Minutes on TV3 (which shifts to 7.30pm Sundays from May 8, with Survivor: Redemption Island taking over its Wednesday slot following its season premiere this Sunday at 7.30pm).

  1. Is there anyway that they powers to be can tell how many people record these shows (Hawaii Five-0) to watch later. It’s sad that TV3 is dropping series, just when you are starting to get into them. No wonder people just download these series and watch them in their own time.

  2. I hardly ever watch anything in real time these days. TiVo it …
